Alex Kyriakacis

Alex Kyriakacis is an artist living in Perth WA. She primarily works in oils and loves the versatility of the oil paint medium.  She is inspired by colour and light and the way it infuses meaning and emotion into her subject matter.

Alex explores a range of subject matter including florals, still-life and portraiture. Painting from life allows her to explore colour and her subject matter fully.  Influenced by everyday objects many of her paintings contain references to her daily life and her Greek cultural heritage. Artists Margaret Olley, Judy Cassab, Paula Rego, John Singer Sargent and the Impressionist movement are some of her greatest influences.

Another part of her practice includes painting outdoors ‘en plain air’ where she can explore colour and light in in the urban and natural landscape.

Alex’s journey in the Visual Arts has been an extensive one. She has qualifications in Secondary Art education and has taught both adults and children in a variety of schools and art programs in WA.  Alex has displayed her work in numerous exhibitions.  She has been a semi-finalist in the Lester Prize for Portraiture. Her work is currently exhibited at Juniper Gallery Darlington and Linton Atelier Bassendean.
