Jacinda Bayne

Jacinda Bayne has been a practising artist for over 20 years. She graduated in 1997 from Otago Art School, New Zealand with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in painting. She now works from her studio in Fremantle in Perth WA.

Over the past 15 years Jacinda has held regular solo exhibitions as well as participating in many group exhibitions. Jacinda has been involved with residencies including China, Scotland and Australia. Jacinda has had 13 solo exhibitions including an exhibition in New York at Anderson Contemporary and the Australian Consulate in New York. She is represented by Galleries around Australia.

There is a recurring theme of landscape in her work with the use of colour as a visual language which makes a strong impact.  This is achieved by her preferred medium of oil paint. This is because of the intensity of colour and light that is achieved through numerous layers of glazes.  Beginning with thin washes of colour, followed by a process of building up of more opaque layers to reflect what is beneath. Through this process, there is a continual removal and addition of medium until she comes to a place of contentment and resolution. Jacinda describes herself as an emotive colourist, producing work that creates escapism not just for herself, but also for the viewer.

Her current practice relates directly to her search for the ultimate utopia and the importance of noticing the beauty and balance within nature.
